It’s become so important to get involved in off ice hockey training these days and I tell you why in a second.
I can remember back to when the NHL lockout in 2005 came and went and hockey fans everywhere were left wondering when the sport they loved would return. An entire season was missed and for a fan, it was devastating. We look forward to Saturday night ‘Hockey Night in Canada’ every week as it not only gives us something awesome to watch, but it brings family and friends together, stirs up heated discussions about favorite teams, and gives us an opportunity to witness the play of some of the most extraordinary athletes in the world.

When the NHL returned the next season, there were new imposed rule changes. The days of all the stickwork, hacking, slashing and hooking to gain an advantage were gone. A constant flood of players were being sent to the box and at first it was frustrating to watch. But before we new it, we were witnessing a new game. And a new type of player emerged as a threat. Even though the faster players were constant threats to score before the rule changes, it was nothing like we know today. No longer were these players being hooked and held as they tried to beat defenders to the net. The faster players became the stars of the league and rightfully so.
The rule changes, more than anything, made speed a game changer.
If you were fast, you could play.
That’s where off ice hockey training became ever more important than ever.
