Averee Tried Electro Muscle Stimulation Golf Fitness Training
You’ve probably heard of electrical muscle stimulation – EMS, for short – but you’re probably asking for some clarification on the subject and wondering how, or if, it applies to golf.
Not ready to try it yet? No problem – I did it, and here’s a full breakdown of my experience, the benefits it offers, and how it can be used for golf-specific drills.
I went to see the coach Jeff Dry from One Pulse in North Palm Beach, Florida to see what all the hype was about EMS training. the miha bodytec was invented in Germany and is designed for full body strength training. Those who support miha claim that the electrical pulses can activate up to 98% of your muscles simultaneously and can achieve a full two-hour workout in just 20 minutes.
Drier has designed a specific golf swing training plan. I was hesitant because the workout was only supposed to last 20 minutes and involved no weights.
My workouts are usually strength-focused and last an hour or more, so when Jeff told me the plan, I was skeptical how everything could be accomplished in just 20 minutes.
Drier first gave me shorts and a top to change into. Once back, I was given a water dripping vest, arm bands, leg bands and a butt band which were all attached tightly to my body. My first reaction was… “ew! and “I look like Kim Possible.”
The water activates the electrostimulation when plugged into the machine, and when it was fully on and I started moving, I couldn’t feel anything. Each exercise was performed at four seconds and four seconds.
We started with a bit of cardio as a warm up, worked our way down the body and worked our way up. Some exercises included lunges, lateral raises, explosive moves, Romanian deadlifts, and hip mobility moves. EMS training is great because it challenges the body and contracts the muscles without adding the stress of heavy weights on the joints. The workout was tough and the electrical pulses definitely made me work hard throughout the exercises. The main purpose of golf-specific lenses with miha bodytec technology is to strengthen and stabilize the body.
Below is a short video of my training session with Drier.
Take away food : I enjoyed the experience and was shocked – pun intended – how well the workout was done without weights. I think it’s great for those on physical rehab programs who maybe can’t put a ton of weight on their bodies. The machine works your whole body without putting too much strain on the muscles and joints. It’s a great option if you’re short on time for the week and workouts are only 20 minutes long.
