A free event hosted by KFL & A Public Health and the YMCA will celebrate active, healthy living for Kingston seniors this year. Tuesday 25 September.
The ‘Stay active‘program will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Kingston YMCA, 100 Wright Cres (map).
Seniors attending the event will have the chance to participate in a number of activities to choose from. The programs offered include tai chi, low impact fitness, aqua fitness, swimming, Zumba Gold, outdoor walking and yoga.
Participants will also receive information on community health and wellness programs for seniors living in Kingston.
“Physical activity is an essential part of healthy aging,” said Debbie O’Grady, physical activity specialist at KFL & A Public Health. “It’s so important that people stay as active as possible as they get older. Being in good physical condition allows you to maintain your autonomy and reduce the risk of falling.
Morning refreshments and a light lunch will be provided.
Seniors who wish to participate in activities are reminded to wear comfortable clothing and non-slip supportive shoes, and to bring a swimsuit if participating in water activities.
Pre-registration is required and can be done by dialing 613-549-1232 or 1-800-267-7875, ext. 1209 to register or for more information on the “Stay Active” event.
This year, Kingston was named the best place to retire in Canada by the online magazine Comfort Life.
