WHCHC offers free fitness activities, classes

The West Hawaii Community Health Center (WHCHC) invites community members of all ages to attend free activities and fitness classes throughout the week.

These hour-long classes help promote an active lifestyle that improves health, reduces the risk of chronic disease, controls weight and decreases stress.

“At the West Hawaii Community Health Center, we are committed to helping our community develop good, healthy habits that have long-term health benefits,” said Richard Taaffe, CEO of the West Hawaii Community Health Center. “Health and wellness initiatives like these fun, free wellness classes are an important part of treating the whole person and improving patient care. “

The health and wellness classes offered by the West Hawaii Community Health Center are designed to promote healthy lifestyles, are open to anyone in the community, and are offered free of charge.

Grind On Mondays, the WHCHC Kealakehe Health Center pavilion goes wild with the newest training craze, Pound! Designed for all fitness levels, Pound is a full body cardio jam workout using weighted chopsticks. Get rid of the Monday blues and fight with WHCHC starting at 5:30 pm Bring yoga mat, water, and wear exercise gear.

Hula for health On Tuesday, getting back to health takes on an island feel with Hula for Health. This hula class begins at the Hale Halawai County Lodge (75-5760 Ali’i Drive) in Historic Kailua Village from 2:30 p.m. Wear comfortable clothes and bring an extra spoon of aloha spirit.

Tai chi Every Thursday, WHCHC offers Tai Chi, a wonderful art that gently exercises body and mind with slow movements that are impact free and easy to learn. Tai Chi begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Kealakehe Health Center pavilion. Bring water and wear light sneakers or reef shoes.

The West Hawaii Community Health Center’s Kealakehe location is at 74-5214 Keanalehu Drive, just up the hill from Kealakehe High School.
